All That Lays Between - Art Exhibition

Cassandra-Lyn’s Exhibition was opened in conjunction with the Grafton Festival of Music and Arts earlier this month and a variety of artworks will be on display each day until 8 December.

The Backroom Space at Walkers Marina Hotel, South Grafton is an impressive backdrop to this exciting range of new works by the contemporary artist with the exhibition available for viewing 7 days per week, 10am-8pm.

Artist Statement:

My work is predominantly derived from the process of experimentation. How different materials and techniques form together to create the concept or idea I am trying to convey. Compositions are regularly based on memories of places, scenes, or emotions of a concept brought forward onto the viewing plane.

There is an alchemic approach to the materials I use such as, the way shellac creates patterns when it is set alight, how bitumen drips and separates as it encounters acrylics. The use of layering and building up of the surface is a large part of my work. The texture that evolves, patterns that are formed, and the colours that peer through with each subsequent layer. Equally valid is the erasure of the surface. Scratching back, melting, and rubbing to reveal the substructure of the layers.

The works are ultimately descended from the landscape and everyday life, but I strive for ambiguity in my work. I try not to be too obvious- to push my views or document life too heavily onto the viewer, as for me, my practice is a form of escapism, delving into my imaginative world. This is my desire of the viewer’s experience also. The audience will bring their own imaginations and views to the images, to make their own interpretations without being confronted in a literal sense, and to feel at ease within the viewing space.
