Tommy Walker Surf Classic

The inaugural ‘Tommy Walker Surf Classic’ honors the man accredited with introducing surfing to Australia in 1909 at Manly and in Yamba circa 1911/12. Maclean professional photographer Osric Burston Notley who was a Yamba Surf Club member at the time took Australia’s first surfing photograph of Tommy Walker showing off his surfing style at Main Beach Yamba during the 1911/12 surf life saving season.

This surf classic event will include an "Exhibition of Surfing" with invited guests from around Australia riding long board replicas from the same period, static exhibition of surfboards, images and surfing memorabilia from past eras in the Pacific Hotel and participants will be made up of well known surfing greats that our nation has produced. Come down and celebrate Yamba’s milestone in Australia's surfing history, enjoy the company of surfing greats and experience the beautiful surrounds and surf that Yamba has to offer.
