South of Bundjalung National Park is Iluka Nature
Reserve. The reserve is part of the Central Eastern Rainforest
Reserves of Australia (CERRA) World Heritage Area with a large patch
of coastal rainforest growing in the protection of Iluka Bluff. Take
a walk through the rainforest and feel the stark contrast in
temperature as you venture into the coolness of the rainforest.
Iluka Nature Reserve is a bird lover’s paradise
with more than 100 resident species, including the spectacular
Regent Bower Bird. Iluka Bluff Picnic Area, adjacent to the reserve,
has a walking track to a lookout which gives spectacular views over
the rainforest and coast. Access to Iluka’s main swimming beach
(patrolled during the summer holiday season) is also from the picnic
area. |
