Brooms Head Caravan Park and Reserve - Winner of Overall Clean Beach Award for North Coast Region
North Coast Regional Awards for Clean Beach Australia were held at the Brooms Head Community Hall on 23 November, 2011. Representatives of Clarence Valley Council as Trust Manager for the Clarence Coast Reserve Trust, members of the Brooms Head Community and Staff and Management of the Brooms Head Caravan Park were in attendance.
Visiting the North Coast region to present the awards, Chief Executive Officer of Keep Australia Beautiful NSW, Peter McLean said he was struck by how passionate communities in the area are when it comes to the protection and management of their beaches.
“We all know that the beaches of the North Coast are some of the most beautiful and pristine in the world. Keeping them healthy and minimising the negative impact of human activity requires strategy, commitment and involvement from all areas of the community. Brooms Head Beach is a worthy recipient of the Overall Clean Beach, Water Conservation and Community & Partnerships Action Awards for 2011. The beach and the surrounding dunes should be seen as a benchmark for coastal communities; from recycling and waste management to visitor education and water conservation, it really does tick all the boxes when it comes to environmental protection and management,” Peter said.
Brooms Head Caravan Park and Reserve received the following awards in the North Coast Region:
Winner - Overall Clean Beach Award
Winner - Community Partnership and Action
Winner - Water Conservation Award
Highly commended - Litter Reduction
Highly commended - Environment Protection
Accepting the awards on behalf of the Brooms Head Caravan Park and Reserve was Park Management and Staff Danielle Barrett, Darrin Mussared, Wendy Martin and Warren Quigg.
The Brooms Head Caravan Park and Reserve will now go onto the state finals with all other regional winners to be judged for the Cleanest Beach in NSW Award. The State awards will be held in Sydney in early December.
